REVIEWS
Over the decades, Wicked had brought in a great amount of positive reviews. From seasoned Broadway critics to first time music viewers, this musical never disappoints. Just ask this writer from VOX ATL who went to see the touring production of Wicked for the very first time, “And with the magic of the intricate sets, the meticulous costumes, and, of course, the singing, I was spellbound to the edge of my seat.” The writer continued to express his delight in seeing this musical, “To say I was surprised at how much I enjoyed “Wicked” would understate the grin on my face during intermission, and the even wider one when we stood for the final ovation.”
Meanwhile, USA Today raved about the musical following its original Broadway producton in 2003, “The most complete, and completely satisfying, new musical I’ve come across in a long time.” The review continued, “The triumph is not Schwartz’s alone. Adapted from a Gregory Maguire novel, Wicked offers a post-feminist, socially conscious reinterpretation of the story of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West.”
Over at TimeOut New York, the musical was admired for being “lavishly designed” and for its spectacular “complex themes. “Thanks to Winnie Holzman’s witty book and composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz’s robust and pop-inflected score, Wicked soars.” Lastly, Time Magazine had amazing words for this fantastic Broadway epic, “If every musical had the brains, heart & courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place.”
