So much happened in the land of Oz before Dorothy arrived, and luckily, we have Wicked to share the tale. One of the highest-grossing plays in the history of the Broadway circuit is going to be presented inside Music Hall Kansas City on Thursday 20th August 2026 at 7:30 PM as part of the PNC Broadway in Kansas City series. The light and the darkness collide on the stage while some of the iconic tunes that you know and love from this classic echo through the halls of Music Hall Kansas City. Before you know it, you're going to be delighted by "Defying Gravity" and "The Wizard and I," performed by the National Tour's talented cast featuring Aline Mayagoitia as Elphaba and Claudia Bennett as Glinda. This is a performance that was ideally suited to be a stage show, and boy, does it show!
Perhaps one of the reasons why Wicked has been so successful both on Broadway and through these tours is that the story doesn't need a super elaborate stage design or gimmicks. Remarkable lighting and the incredible costume designs, paired with some of the best actors to hit NYC, have been enough to lead this production to multiple Tony wins and sold-out shows. Yet, since the story and the look and feel are familiar at this point, the audience isn't as tied to a specific element in production to experience Wicked. This makes it a wonderful choice to see on the road! A perfect example of the opposite is the Tiger animatronic from Life of Pi. That's an impressive feat of design, and it looks amazing when it works, but it's a little harder to take that show on the road. With Wicked, oddly enough, you don't need a lot to realize you've set foot in the land of Oz.
It can be a little tempting to choose a spot on the front row to experience Wicked live, yet people in the know say it's one of the worst places to see a show. There's a reason why the rich and famous used to sit in the boxes on the upper levels. Try to find a spot toward the middle of the theater, quite a few rows separated from the stage. Those seats will offer the best glimpse of the land of Oz and the story unfolding between the witches. The historic Art Deco Music Hall Kansas City, with its 2,363-seat capacity across Orchestra, Loge, Box, and Balcony sections, offers exceptional sightlines from multiple vantage points.
Right now, you can find seats to see Wicked for $93. Click the "Buy Tickets" link soon to make sure you don't let slip this performance.
