Synopsis

Set in 1922 Long Island, the tale follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway moving into a humble cottage next to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby. Amazed by Gatsby's extravagant parties and mysterious persona, Nick discovers Gatsby's intense pursuit to reunite with his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. As secrets unravel, including infidelities, deceptions and devastating confrontations - the story takes a turn into unrealistic dreams amid societal excess. Through soaring songs like "Roaring On," the musical crafts a story of passion, betrayal and inevitable demise.

Creative Team

This outstanding show is put together by a gifted team led by Ryan McCartan as the charismatic Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the dreamy Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the witty Jordan Baker, Linedy Genao as the fiery Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as the domineering Tom Buchanan, Charlie Pollock as the downtrodden George Wilson, and Eric Anderson as the shrewd Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with energetic movement by Dominique Kelley and an unique score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby" premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway premiere in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. This adaptation respects the novel's heritage while incorporating a modern musical style, representing the first major Broadway production of the story. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, honoring its opulent 1920s styles.
