Synopsis

Set in 1922 Long Island, the story follows Midwesterner Nick Carraway moving into a humble cottage adjacent to the extravagant millionaire Jay Gatsby. Amazed by Gatsby's lavish parties and mysterious persona, Nick uncovers Gatsby's intense quest to reunite with his former love, Daisy Buchanan, now wedded to the wealthy but unfaithful Tom. As secrets unravel, including infidelities, betrayals and tragic confrontations - the story takes a turn into unrealistic dreams amidst social excess. Via soaring songs like "Roaring On," the musical weaves a story of passion, betrayal and inevitable downfall.

The Production

This outstanding production is put together by a gifted team led by Ryan McCartan as the charismatic Jay Gatsby, Aisha Jackson as the dreamy Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as narrator Nick Carraway, Samantha Pauly as the clever Jordan Baker, Linedy Genao as the fiery Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as the overbearing Tom Buchanan, and Eric Anderson as the cunning Meyer Wolfsheim. Directed by Marc Bruni, with dynamic choreography by Dominique Kelley and an unique score by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.

Adapted on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 classic, "The Great Gatsby" debuted at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before making its Broadway premiere in April 2024 at the Broadway Theatre. This version honors the novel's heritage while incorporating a contemporary musical style, representing the first major Broadway production of the story. It won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical, honoring its lavish 1920s aesthetics.
